London, United Kingdom
Wayne McGregor's "Woolf Works", his first full-length ballet for the Royal Ballet, is inspired by Virginia Woolf's literary imagination. The ballet triptych explores Woolf’s novels and themes: Act I, "I Now, I Then", based on Mrs Dalloway; Act II "Becomings", inspired by Orlando; and Act III, "Tuesday", referencing The Waves and Woolf's suicide. Woolf's genuine interest in rhythm and movement has, in turn, inspired this interpretation of her works through ballet, where her rich engagement with dance and the physical expression of human experience merge in a dynamic and expressive form.
