Wax Virginia
Eleanor Crook
Statue
2015
London, United Kingdom
Wax Virginia is an installation by artist Eleanor Crook, conceptualized in collaboration with Professor Clare Brant, and Ruth Richardson. The wax figure of Virginia Woolf greets visitors at the entrance of the building named after her—Virginia Woolf Building at King's College London—where Woolf herself once attended evening classes. The cabinet in which she stands has been thoughtfully designed to resonate with the themes of "A Room of One’s Own", inviting reflection on the importance of intellectual and physical space for women writers.
