This play brings to life a question Virginia Woolf posed: What if Shakespeare had a sister as brilliant as he was? Inspired by Woolf’s seminal essay, "A Room of One's Own" (1929), the play imagines Judith Shakespeare—the neglected sister of William—as a brilliant and daring spirit whose creative gifts are stifled by the constraints of her time. On stage, Judith and Virginia merge and echo through one another, their voices intertwining together across the centuries like whispers in the dark.
