Responding directly to the 34th Annual International Virginia Woolf Conference “Woolf & Dissidence” (5–8 July 2025, University of Sussex), Andrea Mindel has created an embroidered slate‑framed artwork that materializes Woolf’s own unease with political and social “dissidence.” Drawing on key phrases from Woolf’s essays and letters, the piece weaves together reflections on dissent and the writer’s role in troubled times—concerns that Woolf voiced a century ago yet still echo powerfully on today’s world stage. Mindel’s selection of quotations was informed by contributions from Professor Anne Fernald, Professor Madelyn Detloff, Helen Tyson, Mark Hussey, and other Woolf scholars.
