Bazı hayaletler kapı gıcırtısında değil, cümlenin içinde yaşar. Bir “ama”yla belirir, bir noktalı virgülle uzar, bir iç ses gibi kulağına eğilip fısıldar. Nazik ol. Uyumlu ol. Fazla konuşma. Virginia Woolf bu hayaletin adını Evdeki Melek koyarken onu yenmenin yolunu da tarif eder: Yazarken “düz” gitmemek, düşüncenin sıçrayışlarına izin vermek; cümleyi ve dizgeyi kırmak.

Sizleri, Woolf’un 144. doğum gününde, onun açtığı o dar koridorda, yazının hem ev, hem kürsü olduğu yerde, birlikte yürümeye davet ediyoruz. Hyde Park Gate’teki çocuk Virginia’nın ev gazetesiyle kurduğu mizah, gözlem, oyun ve deney dolu küçük dünya bugün bize şunu hatırlatmaya devam etmektedir: Yazmak, dışarıdaki gürültüye rağmen içeride bir ses kurmaktır. Ve bazen, o sesi boğan şey dışarısı değil; içeride usulca yerleşmiş terbiyeli bir hayalettir.

23 Ocak 2026 Cuma, saat 13:00’de, Kült Kavaklıdere’nin Yan Salon’unda, Woolf Arts Archive üyeleri Atahan Mahir Karabiber ve Tuğba Çanakçı ile "Evdeki Melek"in yazarlığa nasıl sızdığını, “uslu kız” dilini nasıl dayattığını, hangi kelimeleri kısalttığını, hangi düşünceleri “fazla” bulduğunu konuşacağız. Ardından Melek Çelik’in drama atölyesinde, hayaletin bedenimize bıraktığı izi, sustuğumuz yerleri, yutkunmaları ve yarım kalan cümleleri sahnede görünür kılacağız.

Etkinliğimiz yalnızca bir anma değil, aynı zamanda melek gibi görünen hayaletle bir yüzleşme ve onu yok etme provası. Defterini, sesini, merakını al. Kendi kürsüne çık: Hayaletlere rağmen, yaz!

Some ghosts don’t live in the creak of a door, but inside a sentence. They appear with a “but,” stretch on with a semicolon, and lean in to whisper like an inner voice: Be kind. Be agreeable. Don’t speak too much. When Virginia Woolf names this ghost the Angel in the House, she also describes how to defeat it: don’t move in a straight line as you write—let thought leap; break the sentence, break the sequence.

On Woolf’s 144th birthday, we invite you to walk with us down that narrow corridor she opened—where writing is both home and podium. The small world nine-year-old Virginia built through her homemade paper at Hyde Park Gate—full of humor, observation, play, and experiment—still reminds us of this: to write is to forge an inner voice despite the noise outside. And sometimes what silences that voice isn’t the world out there, but a well-mannered ghost that has quietly taken up residence within.

On Friday, 23 January 2026, at 13:00, in the Yan Salon at Kült Kavaklıdere, we will explore with Woolf Arts Archive members Atahan Mahir Karabiber and Tuğba Çanakçı how the Angel in the House slips into authorship—how it imposes the language of the “good girl,” shortens certain words, and labels certain thoughts as “too much.” Then, in Melek Çelik’s drama workshop, we will make visible on stage the traces the ghost leaves on our bodies: the places we fall silent, the swallowed words, the half-finished sentences.

This event is not only a commemoration, but also a confrontation—and a rehearsal for erasing the ghost that looks like an angel. Bring your notebook, your voice, your curiosity. Step up to your own podium: despite the ghosts, write!
