Woolf Arts Archive –WAA– is a global project devoted to the collection and appreciation of art inspired by the life and works of Virginia Woolf.

WAA is founded with a passion for both literature and all forms of art; thus, we are a diverse team of Woolf enthusiasts and art lovers who believe in the power of creativity to expand and deepen our understanding of literary figures.

WAA connects artists, scholars, curators, and common readers offering a space where Woolf's impact on the arts can be explored, celebrated, and shared.

Snail, WAA

Inspired by Dora Carrington's woodcut snail accompanying Woolf's words in "The Mark on the Wall" (Hogarth 1917), WAA invites its viewers to dive into the archive of diverse art forms in dialogue with Woolf's works through this evocative image of waves.

While ceaselessly navigating surfaces, the snail both leaves its trace on them and absorbs these traces into its own body whereby an ever-growing shell collecting the experiences in its journey is continually created. Similarly, WAA forms a home that creates a constantly expanding space where each Woolf-inspired piece of art, performance or adaptation leaves its mark and becomes a  part of the shell.

A basin that renews itself with every new splash of water, WAA aims to capture the basis of producing Woolf-inspired art and stays in tune with every new wave. WAA is a place where sketches of the past and present merge, shaping the future of literary and artistic expression.
